Street fighter IV: Street fighter II Revamped

February 19th, 2009

When it comes to fighting games one series has been able to stand to the test of time, Street Fighter. This February Capcom is releasing Street Fighter IV for the PS3 and Xbox360.

Street Fighter first became a success in the arcades back in the early 90’s. Kids all over fell in love with this 2d fighter and the series has become an all time classic. Soon the game Street Fighter II made its way to Super Nintendo and soon after Street Fighter made its home on multiple console systems.

This latest version of Street Fighter, is a re-vamped version of Street Fighter II. The models and environments have all been changed to 3D, the first time ever in this fighting series. Even though the game has a 3D look it still utilizes the 2D perspective, and the traditional six-button game play. Fans can expect to see their favorite characters like Ryu, Ken, Vega, Bison, Chun-Li and Guile along with a host of all new characters which include: Rufus a joke fighter, the female American super-spy Crimson Viper, El Fuerte a lucho libre wrestler and Able the French mixed martial artist.

Along with the original combos Capcom has added in some extra feats that are sure to enhance game play. In the past there were Super Combos, now Street Fighter will have something new called the Ultra Combo. The Ultra combo is a long cinematic power move that consists of kicks, punches and various other moves. In order to pull off this combo you will need to fill up your Ultra Combo gauge. The gauge, which can also be referred to as the “Revenge Gauge”, will fill up as you take damage.

Another new feature is the Focus Attack. The Focus Attack allows the player to absorb an attack from their opponent and launch a counter attack. There are two phases to this new attack. The first is to move into the correct stance which allows you to absorb the attack. The second phase is where you will be able to counter attack. The counter attack will vary depending on how long you hold down the correct buttons. If you are able to hold the move long enough your focus attack can become unblockable. When asked why this new system has been inputted into the game, game designer Yoshinori Ono said this “the skill is in reading your opponents move before he starts moving…We haven’t forgotten about combos and linked moves, but focus makes it so that you have to read your opponent.” Onu’s reason for focus attack is that he believes it makes the system more realistic, like boxing.

In each box you will receive a bonus game disc with either an HD or Blu-Ray (depending on system) 65 min full length anime move and promotionals, cd soundtrack, Udon/Prima Hint book, downloadable content and collectible figurine (Ryu for PS3 and Crimson Viper for Xbox360). If you pre-order the game you will also be able to receive a Ryu headband that resembles the one worn by Ryu in the game. Headbands will ship with your order if you ordered online or will be available at the time your in store order ships.

The legendary fighting series Street Fighter will be released on February 17th, and will feature a new look, new characters and new combos. Anyone who has loved the original Street fighter II will be pleased with this latest installment.
